Chargers pound Braves with 19 runs

Nineteen runs was more than enough for the Dos Pueblos baseball team on Tuesday in a 19-1 rout of visiting Lompoc.

Leadoff batter Steven Reveles was the Chargers’ top run producer, knocking in six runs on three hits – two of them doubles. Robert Vickers also had three hits and reached base in all five of his plate appearances by walking twice.

Most of the damage was inflicted in a 12-run fifth inning in which Dos Pueblos punished the Braves with seven hits and three walks.

Nate Hart had a pair or RBIs and hits, and also threw four scoreless innings with four strikeouts to earn the victory.

The non-league win was especially gratifying for first-year Charger head coach Nate Mendoza, who beat his alma mater and former coach Jim Allen.

DP (13-11, 6-4) face Oak Park in another non-league game on Friday before next week’s big series with Santa Barbara.
