The No. 2-seeded Cate Rams started their playoff push on Thursday, ending Norwalk’s season in a 15-3 spanking at Cate.
Top singles players Max Sabel and Geoffrey Mak swept their sets with relative ease, while Cate’s No. 1 doubles team of Wyatt Geiger and Blake Mackall cruised 6-2, 6-2, 6-0.
“It was one of our best matches of the year in the sense that everybody contributed,” commented Bob Bonning, adding that the match could have been a lot closer if not for the Rams’ hot start in which they took an early 6-0 lead.
Norwalk was the No. 3 team from the Suburban League, which features No. 1-seed Cerritos.
Rohit Gotswamy won three sets on the doubles side with two different partners, pairing with Cam Seo in two wins and Can Som in the other.
Cate, playing in CIF’s Division III for the first time this season, dives right back into the second round on Friday with a match at St. Margaret’s.
