Garrick Vanderfin’s 16 kills at the middle-blocker spot couldn’t save the Bishop Diego boys volleyball team from a 25-17, 22-25, 25-22, 25-17 loss at Oaks Christian on Tuesday.
“We were a little confused in the first game but in game two we got it together and put a little pressure on them,” said coach Joe Reiken.
The Cards had a 17-10 lead in the third set but saw it slip away, then couldn’t hold on in the fourth.
Spencer Shull put away 10 kills while Connor MacGillivray added six and Sean McIver dished out 37 assists.
“We definitely played way more intense than last Thursday against Oak Park,” said Reiken. “Our passing was really good.”
The Cardinals, who have already secured the third and final playoff spot out of the Tri-Valley League, host rival Carpinteria on Thursday.
