The Santa Barbara Pony League Bronco All Stars sparkled in their debut, winning first place in the annual Memorial Day Tournament held at MacKenzie Park. In Saturday’s opener, the 12-and-under home team blitzed the visiting Danville Diablos 8-0.
The All Stars continued their winning ways over the weekend to earn top seed for Monday’s championship match-up. In a tough pitcher’s duel, Santa Barbara played errorless defense and edged their longtime rivals, the Santa Ynez Warriors, 3-1.
The team roster includes Cole Atelian, Carlos Fairbanks, Kevin Gowdy, John Jensen, Joel Johnson, Christian Loza, Daniel McKinney, Bryce Morison, Trevor Moropoulos, Dalton Schroeder, Alexander Smith, Dylan Tarpening and Johnny Weger. Coach John Jensen is assisted by Paul Morison and Richard Schroeder.
