Carpinteria’s Dalton Bowles used the Tri-Valley League’s fifth meet to his advantage, turning in an 81 to move up a spot in the individual race for a CIF berth with one league meet remaining.
Bowles, who finished just three strokes behind medalist Taylor Stein of Malibu at par-72 Victoria Lakes GC, would have to leap-frog four players at Rustic Canyon next week to qualify for the postseason. Only the top four in league make it and Bowles is sitting in eigth after play on Tuesday Head coach John Ward said it was a longshot but possible, given the difficulty of the Simi Valley course, saying that some might score high.
Bowles has the momentum, having finished third in the last two meets.
The Warriors as a team finished fifth, the same as their overall standing, while Malibu gained the inside track to the TVL title by shooting a 406, besting Oak Park by 13 strokes.
Joey Biro broke 100 for the first time in his career at 98 and has shaved off 30 strokes from his score this season.
“All five guys were under 100 on a tough course on a tough day,” said a pleased Ward.
