Wind can’t slow Sabel, Rams in 14-4 win

Cate fought through howling winds Wednesday, sweeping all nine doubles sets en route to a 14-4 boys tennis win at Santa Ynez.

Max Sabel went 3-0 in singles play, while Rohit Goswamy and Mark Mullan went the distance in the dubs. Coach Bob Bonning said that strategy changes a bit with the wind.

“In doubles, what I tell them is to go with thick serves that are going to drop in and then get to the net,” said Bonning. “In singles you’ve got to pay attention to the types of shots the opposition and be patient in terms of hitting winners.”

The Rams (6-2) play at San Marcos Friday. Santa Ynez is now 8-4.
