La Sierra, Calif. — Westmont baseball pounded 15 hits as the Warriors defeated the Golden Eagles of La Sierra by a score of 22-3 on Thursday afternoon.
As planned by head coach Scott Deck, four Warrior pitchers took the mound for two innings each before Tim Crabbe closed out the game with 15 pitches in the ninth inning. Westmont hurlers allowed just three hits, gave up four walks and tallied eight strikeouts. Dan Price was awarded his third win of the season against one loss after striking out three of the seven batters he faced in the third and fourth innings. Price walked one but did not allow a hit.
Westmont benefited from 18 walks, the most ever received by a Warrior team in a single game. Four times Warrior batters where hit by a pitch and five times Warriors reached on Golden Eagle errors. Westmont’s 25 total bases was the third most in Warrior history. The Warriors scored in every inning but the third, including seven times in the ninth.
Second baseman Mark Boujikian was three for four at the plate with a two-run homerun and a double. He also recorded four RBIs, walked twice and connected for a sacrifice fly. Catcher Sam Wiley, who also connected for a two-run homerun, was two for two on the day, with four RBIs, two runs scored and two walks.
Both of Westmont’s third basemen recorded two hits as well. Starter Jordan Bottenfield notched an RBI and scored twice while Luke Yardy, who came on in the seventh inning, was two for two with a double and two runs scored.
Left fielder David Stout, first baseman Colten Christianson and right fielder Taylor Grace each posted two RBIs as did designated hitter Pete McCarthy. McCarthy’s position might better have been called designated ‘hittee’ as he was plunked three times in the game, once with the bases loaded.
Westmont also posted seven stolen bases, fifth best on the all time list. Brent Meschuk accounted for three of the pilfered bags.
The Warriors, who improved to 12-27 on the season, will return to action on Wednesday, April 15 when they host Biola at Russ Carr Field at three o’clock.
