The Carpinteria girls softball team suffered an extra-inning defeat on Thursday, falling to Nordhoff 3-2 in the Rangers’ last at-bat in the eighth inning.
The Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the first inning after consecutive doubles from Dani Mendoza and Carmen Campi. Sierra Freeman went 3-for-4 at the plate but Carpinteria had troubles producing many runs for starting pitcher Coco Crowfoot.
Nordhoff came up with the winning run after a leadoff single put a runner on in the bottom of the eighth. Three batters later, Nordhoff slapped a single through the left-side for the walk-off hit.
Carpinteria returns to action on Saturday with a doubleheader against Channel League school San Marcos.
The Warriors stand at 6-8, 1-3 in league.
