The Carpinteria boys golf team traveled to Malibu Country Club on Thursday for the third Tri-Valley League meet of the season and neither fell nor rose in the standings after a fifth-place finish.
The Warriors shot a 476 as a team, led by Dalton Bowles’ 88 and Erik Price’s 89. Mike Galsterer turned in a 96, Alex Warner a 99 and Joey Viro a 104.
“I was pleased to see our last guy was less than 18 strokes from our first guy,” said head coach John Ward, who thinks his team is really starting to come together. “We’re showing big improvement by bringing our scores closer and closer to each each other.”
Malibu placed first overall, carding a 399 on the par-72 course. Oak Park’s Tyler Schanz was the top individual at 76.
Ward said that none of the Warriors, including himself, had played the public course before. Tucked away in the Santa Monica Mountains, the course has narrow fairways and the grounds crew didn’t cut the preps any slack with difficult pin placements.
The Warriors, already eliminated from the postseason as a team, has three remaining league matches on the schedule.
