Royals, Warriors take a trip to splitsville

Tara Crawford and Scarlett McIntosh each drove in a run to break a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning, leading San Marcos’ softball squad to a 5-3 win over visiting Carpinteria in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader.

Warrior pitcher Nicole Pearce struck out 12 in the second game and also nabbed a double and a triple as Carpinteria (7-8) picked up the split with a 9-0 victory.

San Marcos coach Alex Sheldon said that Natalie Williams did a nice job defensively at third base and shortstop for the Royals (7-9), while Cady Haskell battled hard in the circle during the second game.

The Royals play Dos Pueblos twice this week, beginning with a home matchup on Tuesday.
