The San Marcos boys tennis team clinched its 12th-straight playoff berth on Thursday, locking down third place in the Channel League with a 13-5 victory at Ventura.
The Royals rode the strength of their doubles play once again, just missing out on their sixth sweep of the season in doubles.
The teams of Parker Funk-Jackson Foster and Mario Herrera-Garrett Timmons both came back from three-game deficits to win sets while Jackson Mann and Scott Messier had a much easier time, only losing five games in three sets.
In singles, Ventura’s Bobby Oldt was the only player from either side to sweep his sets. Nik Kilpelainen grabbed two sets for San Marcos.
The Royals travel to Cate for their final regular-season match on Friday before the Channel League championships on Monday.
