The San Marcos boys golf team dealt with familiar winds at Buena Ventura golf course on Thursday, firing a 378 to better host Ventura’s 400 in a Channel League match.
The Cougars’ Ben Shur medaled with a 3-under 68 but the Royals were better as a team, turning in four scores under 76.
John Etsell was low man with a 72. Dodge Ward and Kyle Rieb posted identical 74s and Scott Bradford recorded a 75. Thayer White came through with an 83 to fill out the Royals’ score card.
“As of now we are focused on making the playoffs,” said San Marcos coach Dave Siordia. “We know we can compete with anyone but in order to prove that we must make CIF. That’s why these Channel League matches are so important. We have worked real hard over the past month and our scores are starting to prove it.”
The Royals evened their record at 2-2 in league and are 4-6 overall.
