The Santa Barbara Riptide Baseball Club, consisting of local 11-year-olds, won the 7th Annual San Diego Open this past Sunday. The boys beat a tough Carlsbad Raptor team 5-2 to capture the title. The road to the championship game was a tough one as the Riptide won three one-run games and tied another.
Since the team of boys from Santa Ynez to Santa Barbara was established in the Fall, it has played in four of the five tournament championship games, winning two.
The team is managed by John Jensen and the coaches are Willie Blackman, Paul Morrison and Steve Ricci. The team consists of Peter Appel, Shea Blackman, Luke Coffey, Dustin Demeter, Kevin Gowdy, Tim Heiduk, John Jensen Jr., Bryce Morison, Sean Nakano-West, Quinn Peacock, Austin Ricci and Marcus Tmur.
