Tony Cooper went 5-for-5 with four RBIs on Saturday and three pitchers combined on a five-hitter as SBCC cruised to an 11-0 WSC baseball victory at Moorpark.
Jacob Trimble added four hits for the Vaqueros (22-18, 9-13), who racked up 11 runs for the second straight game and moved into a tie for fourth place with the Raiders (16-21, 9-13). Trimble, who became the starting third baseman two weeks ago, raised his average to .550.
Corey Krupp broke the school record for stolen bases with his 33rd in the third. He’s 33 for 35 on the year.
The Vaqueros started fast with a five-run first inning. Cooper had two doubles, including a three-run double in the ninth that helped SBCC reach double-digits for the ninth time.
Freshman left-hander Zack Edgington (5-1) scattered four hits over the first six innings. Bryce Smith tossed the seventh and eighth, followed by Zach Coonen in the ninth.
SBCC rapped out 14 hits and the defense didn’t commit an error for the second straight game.
“We got great pitching and a brilliant game defensively,” said coach Teddy Warrecker. “We’re fighting for our (playoff) survival and we’ve been playing outstanding the last three weeks.”
Santa Barbara has won two straight and five of its last seven. The Vaqueros moved within two games of third-place Ventura, which lost to Hancock 6-3.
SBCC will play host to Ventura on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
