Pirates sail away from Dons at windy Alisal Ranch

Strong winds are an enemy to any golfer, but it was a bigger nemesis to Santa Barbara High than Santa Ynez Wednesday in the Dons’ 406-409 loss at Alisal Ranch Golf Course.

Pirate Johnny Henno earned medalist honors with a 77, while Shane Lebow led the Dons at 78.

“They are a good team and they’re familiar with playing in the wind,” said Santa Barbara coach James Bedard.

It was only the second loss of the year for the Dons (7-2).

“I’m not upset that we lost as much as I am with the 409. They all made mental errors, and it’s something we need to fix before playoffs. The playoff venues are all very windy,” said Bedard.

Santa Barbara plays at Ventura on Tuesday.
