The Platinum Performance cycling team was faced with nothing but “dust, blood, sweat and tears” at last weekend’s Cal State Series # 3 race, but Team Platinum was still able to extend its overall lead in the men’s cross-country division after collecting five first place finishes.
The Sagebrush San Diego course features a number of turns, long open climbs, rock face climbs, “hike a bike” climbs and rocky fire-road descents. The Cat 1’s race course featured more than 26 miles with 3500 of total climbing while the Cat 2 and 3 course featured a slightly shorter race, cutting off six miles through the Kernan Trail instead of climbing up Los Pinos Mountain.
Team Platinum had a strong showing with Bobby Langin Sr. blowing away the Cat 1 50-54 class.
Bud Donatoni fought his way through the 45-49 class but came out on top in the end.
Bill Daley didn’t look back after the first long climb and came out on top in the Cat 1 40-44 division.
Todd Booth pulled off a fourth place finish in the Cat 1 40-44 class to solidify his 3rd place overall standing.
Brandon Droese used the long climbs to his advantage in winning the Cat 2 18 and under class.
Amanda Schaper pulled off a second place finish in the Cat 2 19-29 division.
Terry Dahl came out with a third place finish in the Cat 1 65 + division.
Bob Nisbet rounded out the top five in the Cat 1 45-49 class.
