The Cate boys lacrosse team rose to the challenge Wednesday, narrowly falling to a formidable opponent in Oak Park, 6-4.
The Rams were behind 3-0 at the end of the first half, but they maintained their grip on the game. Goalkeeper Conrad Kurth was able to stop sixteen shots, including several one-on-ones.
Ugo Nwasike and Will Weaver played strong defense throughout the game, combining impressive clearing skills with aggressiveness on ground balls.
The Rams were unable to penetrate Oak Park’s goal line until the third quarter when Mackie Greason passed to an open Brett Diemer in front of the goal.
Even though Cate was trailing 5-1 at the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Rams did not give up solid offensive and defensive play and closed the scoring gap 6-4 in the last few minutes of play.
The coaches were impressed with the second-half effort and hope for their team to continue this discipline for the rest of the season.
