Haskell knows what to do with Royals’ 17 runs

Cady Haskell recorded the win for the San Marcos girls softball team on Wednesday, taking advantage of the Royals’ healthy offensive output in a 17-7 mercy-rule victory over Bishop Diego.

Haskell struck out four and didn’t allow a walk in a complete game performance.

A bulk of San Marcos’ production came from the No. 2 through No. 5 hitters, who combined to go 10-for-12.

Emily Mason led the Royals at the plate, going 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored. Jocelyn Flattery had two triples, two runs scored and three RBIs of her own.

No. 7 hitter Scarlet McIntosh came through with two big hits, including a two-run single in the first inning that capped the Royals’ five-run first. Her fifth-inning triple scored Chelsea Friedman to make it 17-7 and trigger the mercy rule.

Friedman went 1-for-2 in her first varsity game after just picking up the sport this last year.

San Marcos resumes its rained-delayed matchup with Santa Barbara Thursday on the Royals’ field.
