Dons take 3-of-4 in Pacific View tourney

The Santa Barbara softball team erased an early five-run deficit on Wednesday, taking the final game of the Pacific View Tournament from Channel Islands, 13-5.

After the Raiders scored five runs in the second inning, the Dons responded with 13 unanswered a day after almost beating Channel League-leading Buena.

“We had really sloppy play in second inning so to bounce back from that was big for us,” said Santa Barbara head coach Becky Penrose, who turned to junior pitcher Rebecca Neilsen-Robbins in the third inning to shut down the Channel Islands offense.

Mary Ann Giles provided the pop, going 2-for-4 with a triple and a home run and accounted for 2 RBIs, 3 runs scored. Neilsen-Robbins and Erica Singer also had two-hit days for the Dons, who had 10 hits total.

Santa Barbara finishes off the tourney at 3-1 and returns to league play on Friday against Buena.
