Dons lose another close one, 5-4

Santa Barbara High’s baseball team hasn’t been able to catch a break in close games lately, with the latest instance being Saturday’s 5-4 loss to Sun Valley Poly in the Chatsworth Tournament.

“They didn’t have their best pitchers, but they’re darn good hitters,” said Dons assistant coach Mike Cooney.

Sun Valley Poly (13-5) racked up five doubles on the day.

Colin Eaton got the start and went five innings, giving up four runs (two unearned) while striking out three and walking none. He left the game tied at 4-4.

“He pitched well. I don’t think it was our pitching. It’s just these nagging little mistakes,” said Cooney.

Catcher Travis Fraker went 2-for-2 with a double, a single and an RBI for the Dons (8-10), who have two crucial Channel League games against Buena on tap for this week.
