The Santa Barbara boys golf team looks ready for the postseason after a 351-364 Channel League victory over Dos Pueblos at Glen Annie on Thursday, putting the finishing touch on the Dons’ second-straight undefeated league season in the process.
While the Dons team put together an impressive round at 4-under par, the Chargers’ Tynan Daniels carded the lowest individual score with a 7-under 64. Daniels’ round was bogey-free and included seven birdies.
“It was awesome,” exclaimed Chargers head coach Rob Schiff of Daniels’ career day. “He’s just such a great kid who’s worked really hard.”
Daniels, who hadn’t put together an under-par round yet this season, had an opportunity to tie the Channel League record with a seven-foot putt on the 18th hole but pushed it wide.
Carson Curtis also was under-par, scoring a 69 to help the Chargers to one of their best rounds on 20 years according to Schiff.
Shane Lebow led Santa Barbara with a 67, really turning it on on the back 9. Lebow started off with an eagle on No. 10, parred No. 11, then birdied five straight holes and finished with a 29 on the final nine holes.
Mason Field (68) and Jack Perry (69) also turned in under-par rounds while Ray Gerow (73) and Jack Baur (74) filled out the Dons’ scorecard.
“That’s the kind of play they’re going to have to have in the playoffs,” commented Dons head coach James Bedard.
While the Dons advance to CIF at Arroyo Grande’s Cypress Ridge Golf Course on May 11, both Santa Barbara and Dos Pueblos still have some business to attend to at the Channel League Championships on Monday and Tuesday at Soule Park in Ojai.
