Some of Cate’s boys spikers fell asleep during the hour-long car ride up to Los Olivos to play Dunn, but the Rams shook off a sleepy start to pick up a 25-22, 25-20, 25-19 sweep of the Earwigs on Wednesday to remain alone at the top of the Condor League standings.
Joe Gottwald had 31 sets come his way and he put away 21 of them, with his only two errors coming on Dunn blocks at the start of the match. Isaac Thompson dished out 25 assists with five aces.
“My guys came out pretty flat, but we got our legs back and put our foot down,” said coach Dan Terry, also noting that the Rams (9-3, 8-1) trailed for much of the first and second sets.
Cate hosts St. Bonaventure on Friday.
