Cate holds steady in 11-5 win over Kilpatrick

The Cate baseball team recovered after a shaky first inning to trump Camp Kilpatrick 11-5 Saturday afternoon.

Kilpatrick quickly took the lead in the first inning, collecting four runs in the first inning after only one hit. The Rams (5-1), however, did not let an error, dropped ball and failure to execute on two first and third situations bring them down. Cate swiftly recovered from the poor defensive play to turn in two double plays and score three runs in the second, third and fourth innings.

Faced with two outs, two strikes and bases loaded, freshman George Cusack remained cool under pressure in the third inning.  Cusack brought in two runs after hitting a single, giving the Rams a lead.

John Warren also stepped up to the plate for the Rams, picking out two singles and a double. George Lou continued the Rams’ stellar performance with two doubles and one RBI.

Warren picked up the victory in five innings, allowing only five runs on four hits. Michael Moya shut out Kilpatrick in the remaining two innings of the game.

The Rams will next travel to Besant Hill Wednesday afternoon.
