Friday’s four wins and a meet record were more than enough to boost the Dos Pueblos boys swim team to a dominating victory in the 10-team varsity division of the 50th Annual Long Beach Wilson Invitational, held at Belmont Plaza Pool.
Drew Casier posted All-American times in the 200 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 100 freestyle, while the Chargers’ 200- and 400-free relay teams swam automatic CIF and All-American times.
The 200 free relay team, which clocked in with a winning time of 1:26.71, consists of Austin Cappon, Nolan Gardner, Chase Racich and Casier. The 400-free squad, which set a meet record of 3:10.34, consists of Casier, Racich, Gardner and Josh Pighetti.
Dos Pueblos won the meet with a score of 130, while Los Alamitos was a distant second at 108.
The DP girls also had a strong showing, finishing in second place. Emily Rose Williams had a pair of second-place finishes in the 50 free (24.06) and 100 free (52.77), while Michelle Dockendorf did the same in the 100 breast (1:06.78) and 200 IM (2:10.29).
The “rock n’ roll finals” included a DJ who blasted music on the pool deck.
“It went really well and everybody was spirited because of the music. We were all dancing,” said Williams, who noted the Chargers’ favorite song on the night was “Poker Face” by Lady Gaga.
