Carp loses in extras despite eight-run seventh

Carpinteria drew six walks and scored all eight of its runs off of three different pitchers in the top of the seventh before falling to Oaks Christian in the eighth inning of Wednesday’s 9-8 loss.

The Warriors (12-5, 5-2 Tri-Valley League) had only two hits in the huge seventh, but one of them was a grand slam by Trevor Madden which put the visitors up 8-7. The young but talented Lions (9-6, 6-1 TVL) responded with a run in the bottom half to send the game into extras.

Kyle Geary chipped in two hits with an RBI and a run scored for Carpinteria, which is in the hunt for a league crown in the hotly contested conference.

“There are still five games to go and we need to kind of scrap a win out of each one,” said coach Pat Cooney.

The Lions pay a visit to Carpinteria on Friday.
