Despite racking up 10 blocks as a team, the Bishop Diego boys spikers fell short against first-place Oak Park in Thursday’s Tri-Valley League road match. Game scores were 25-18, 25-16 and 26-24.
The Cardinals were up 23-21 at one point in the third set.
“We really started to rally with them in the third. It was a great set, but we just couldn’t close it out,” said coach Joe Reiken. “I think passing problems and general lethargy hurt us today.”
Garrick Vanderfin put away 11 kills and Connor MacGillivray added five for Bishop, which plays at Oaks Christian Tuesday with second place in the TVL on the line.
“I think we’re going to gear up mentally and play pretty well,” said a confident Reiken.
