Bishop Diego head volleyball coach Joe Reiken wasn’t exactly pleased with his team’s effort in Tuesday’s sweep of Carpinteria. On Thursday, Reiken didn’t have any complaints whatsoever.
The Cardinals responded with energy and determination after a game one loss to Buena, coming from behind to defeat the Channel League’s Bulldogs 22-25, 25-10, 25-21, 25-12.
“There’s no comparison (to Tuesday), we were a completely different team tonight,” claimed Reiken, with the disclaimer attached to the game 1 loss. “We came out a little similar to Tuesday but tonight we were able to turn it around in game two.”
Did they ever. The Cardinals took games 2 and 4 by double digits.
Garrick Vanderfin led Bishop with 18 kills and Ray Nowak put down 12. Connor MacGillivray had nine kills and four of the Cardinals’ 10 aces.
Buena was coming off a victory over San Marcos, a team that beat the Cardinals in four games earlier in the season.
“That shows how much we’ve grown,” Reiken said after watching his team improve to 6-4 overall and 2-2 in the Tri-Valley League.
