Bishop fends off improved Seraphs, 11-7

Just a week after beating St. Bonaventure 18-0, Bishop Diego’s boy tennis team found itself facing a much-improved Seraphs squad at home in Tuesday’s 11-7 win.

Nick Mathis and Sean Strathford-Jones went 3-0 as a doubles pair while Jordan Ekola and Matthew Grimes each went 3-0 in singles play. On Thursday, the Cardinals (4-4, 2-1 Frontier League) travel to first-place Villanova in hopes of avenging a comeback win by the Wildcats in their last match.

“Our singles players are doing what I think they have to do, which is win at least six of nine sets,” said coach Ray “Slash” Vazquez, who is confident heading into Thursday due to his team now being completely healthy.
