Beginning Friday, six Westmont Track and Field athletes will compete at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Indoor National Championships held in Johnson City, Tennessee. Senior Daniel Lew will be the first to compete as he takes the track at 9:35 a.m. PDT in the men’s 3.000 meter race walk. Lew competed in the same event last year, finishing in twelfth place in a time of 16:31.22. His automatic qualifying time for this year’s championships was 15:34.60.
Twenty five minutes later, senior Lorin Milotta will compete in the preliminaries of the women’s 60 meter high hurdles. Milotta earned an automatic qualification at the Azusa Pacific Indoor Qualifier by finishing with a time of 9.19 seconds. The semifinals for the event are scheduled for 11:35 a.m. on Friday with the final taking place on Saturday at 9:35 a.m. Last year, Milotta finished fourteenth in the same event with a time of 9.29 seconds.
At 11:20 a.m. on Friday, Jacob Goodin will run in the semifinals of the men’s mile. It will be the first time Goodin competes as an individual at a collegiate national championship. At last season’s NAIA Outdoor Championships, Goodin competed as part of Westmont’s 4 x 800 meter relay team. Goodin notched an automatic qualification for this year’s championship by posting a time of 4:18.89 at the Gaucho Invitational. The finals will be held on Saturday at 9:35 a.m.
Junior Kasey Kearin will try to better her sixteenth place finish in the long jump at last year’s Indoor Championship beginning at 11:45 a.m. on Friday. Her qualifying mark of 17 feet 10.75 inches was four inches longer than last year’s performance at nationals.
Also competing on Friday will be Lisa Griego in the women’s 3,000 meter semifinal race. Griego, whose race begins at 2:25 p.m., turned in a time of 10:22.81 at the Gaucho Invitational to earn the automatic qualification in the event. The finals are scheduled for Saturday at 11:05 a.m.
