Westmont baseball won for the third time in its last fourth games as the Warriors defeated the Eagles of Biola by a score of 10-6 in La Mirada on Thursday in a Golden State Athletic Conference game.
After giving up a run in the bottom of the first inning, the Warriors (6-21, 4-14 GSAC) scored three runs in the top of the second. First baseman Mark Magdaleno led off the inning and was hit by a pitch. Two outs later, designated hitter Colton Christianson singled to center, advancing Magdaleno to second. Center fielder Taylor Maddox drove Magdaleno in with a single to right before right fielder Charles Whitman doubled to left center to drive in Christianson and Maddox.
After Biola (14-13, 7-7 GSAC) tied the game at three with two runs in the bottom of the second inning, Westmont scored three more runs in the top of the third. Left fielder David Stout led off and reached on an error. A single by Magdaleno moved Stout over to second. Mark Boujikian stepped to the plate with men on first and second and two away and singled to left field, driving in Stout and advancing Boujikian to second. A walk to Christianson loaded the bases before Maddox singled through the right side scoring Magdaleno and Boujikian.
Once again, the Eagles tied the game, scoring two in the bottom of the third and one in the bottom of the fifth. Tied at six runs each, the Warriors exploded in the top of the seventh for four more runs.
A lead off single by catcher Sam Wiley was followed with singles by Magdaleno and shortstop Zeke Torres to load the bases with no outs. Wiley scored when Boujikian was hit by a pitch. One out later, Maddox doubled to left center, clearing the bases and bringing his RBI total for the day to six.
The Warriors used six pitchers with freshman Bill Sharp picking up his first collegiate win. Eagle pitcher Calen Pennington was charged with the loss.
Westmont will return home for a non-conference game against Principia (Ill.) on Friday before hosting Concordia in a GSAC doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch on Friday is at 3:00 p.m. and at noon on Saturday.
