Warriors romp past Wildcats, 11-1

Sierra Freeman and Katrina Haeringer connected for first inning home runs on Tuesday afternoon, propelling the Carpinteria girls softball team to an easy 11-1 mercy-rule victory over visiting Villanova in the Frontier League opener for both teams.

Freeman’s solo shot preceded Haeringer’s three-run shot that scored Dani Mendoza and Maribel Trujillo. The Warriors roughed up the Wildcats for 6 runs in the first inning, well on their way to improving to 5-2 on the season.

Freeman, Mendoza and Haeringer all recorded multi-hit games.

Coco Crowfoot tossed five innings of one-hit ball while turning away seven Villanova batters on strikes. Crowfoot earned her third victory of the season on the mound.

Carpinteria hits the road for its next league game on Thursday at Grace Brethren.
