Coach Don Lowry put some different faces in the SBCC men’s tennis lineup on Tuesday in Santa Maria and the Vaqueros came away with their first shutout — a 9-0 decision over Hancock.
“We gave some guys who’ve been working hard all year a chance to play,” said Lowry, who gave his No. 1, 3 and 4 singles players the day off. “It was the first college match for some of them. They all did a good job.”
Andy Christiansen, Andrew Sokolsky and Johannes Vedin won at 4, 5 and 6 singles for SBCC with Christiansen and Sokolsky also earning doubles points. Christiansen is from Denmark while Vedin grew up in Sweden. Christiansen teamed with Maurice Cohen of Holland for an 8-1 doubles win.
Santa Barbara (3-2, 3-2 WSC) is 3-0 on the road this year and 0-2 at home. The Vaqueros dominated the sets, winning the singles games by a combined 72-14 and the doubles 24-4.
Due to byes and rain makeup dates, SBCC is off for the next two weeks. The Vaqueros will take on L.A. Pierce on March 17 at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club in Carpinteria.
