Blake McFarland allowed just one run in seven innings and SBCC exploded for 14 runs on Tuesday in a 14-1 baseball win at Oxnard.
McFarland, a 6-6 right-hander, held the Condors to six hits over seven innings with seven strikeouts and one walk. “He was in command throughout,” said coach Teddy Warrecker.
The Vaqueros (14-14, 3-9) won their second straight game, thanks to a season-high 17 hits. Six players had two or more hits and the same six all knocked in two runs. Corey Krupp went 3-for-4 while Barrett Cerverha, Aaron Bauman and Steven Keller were 2-4. Zack Chavez and Kai Beam also had two hits apiece.
Keller knocked in the first run with an RBI double during a three-run second inning. SBCC has scored 27 runs on 30 hits in its last two outings.
“Last week, we went to a pitch-by-pitch philosophy with a solid routine,” Warrecker explained. “We’ve been focusing on the process and we’ve been much better since then.
“We’ve got a huge hill to climb and we’ll try to take the next step, then another and another.”
The next step comes on Thursday when Moorpark will be at Pershing Park for a 2:30 p.m. game.
