Ventura jumped ahead of SBCC 5-0 after three innings on Tuesday and went on to beat the visiting Vaqueros 5-2 in a WSC North baseball game.
It was the fourth straight loss and seventh in eight games for SBCC (12-10, 1-5). Santa Barbara committed back-to-back errors in a four-run first inning, leading to three unearned runs.
Vaquero right-hander Jeremy McFarland pitched well enough to win, going 7 2/3 innings with eight strikeouts and no walks. He allowed nine hits and five runs but only one was earned.
Corey Krupp had an RBI single in the fifth and Andrew Leighty drove in a run with a single in the ninth. The Vaqueros had six singles in the contest.
“We lined out six times, so we had some good swings,” said coach Teddy Warrecker. “When we got home, we had an hour-plus meeting with our sophomores and coaches. I asked if they thought I should make some changes and they told me, ‘Yes.’
“We’re going to make some changes. We still have time to turn this around.”
The Vaqueros play host to Hancock on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
