Paige Colijn, Angelica Smith and Carina Celio all posted wins on Friday, leading the SBCC women’s track team to a third-place finish in WSC Mini-Meet No. 3 at Bakersfield. The Vaquero men took fourth in the four-team meet.
Colijn won the 3,000 meters 11:17.42 while Smith was first in the 400 hurdles (1:10.64) for the second straight meet. Celio placed first in the triple jump at 33 feet, 6 inches. Moorpark won the women’s meet with 89 points, followed by Bakersfield (61), SBCC (29) and Santa Monica (7).
In the men’s meet, Marquel Peyton took second for the Vaqueros in the 110 high hurdles (15.83) and Donald Morganson was third in the 800 (2:00.98). Chris Costanzo was also third in the pole vault (11-6).
Grant Weeks threw the javelin for the first time and took fourth with a heave of 146-10.
“We competed well,” said first-year coach Scott Fickerson. “We’re definitely tired from training. We’ll back off the next few weeks and hopefully get some big performances in the Easter Relays (March 20) and WSC No. 4 (March 27), which are both at home.”
