On Saturday, March 28th, the 71st Annual Santa Barbara Easter Relays will be held at SBCC’s La Playa Stadium beginning at 9 a.m.
This year’s Easter Relays promises to be an outstanding event with many of Southern California’s best athletes on hand.
Of particular interest should be Gahr HIgh School, which has a shot to break the Easter Relays record in the 4×800. They have the number 1 & 2 ranked 800m runners in the state of California! Their entry time of 7:50 is very close 7:50.2 which is the oldest record at the Easter Relays and was set by Dos Pueblos in 1972.
Local schools Santa Barbara, San Marcos, Dos Pueblos, St. Joseph, Cabrillo, and Carpinteria will be in attendance. Some outstanding athletes from those schools include:
—Throwers Jon Sua (St. Joseph), Nicholas Scarvelis (DP) and Tyler Parent (SBHS).
—9’6” pole vaulter Lauren Grossi (St. Joseph).
—6-4 high jumper and 22’3” long jumper Patrick Smith (DP) and hopefully sub-11 second sprinter Isaiha Brown from Dos Pueblos in the 100m.
—Distance stars Evan Bradford and Danielle Gemberling from San Marcos and Kevin Lunn from Laguna Blanca.
T-shirts and concessions are available.
Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students and children.
