Santa Barbara’s youth movement beats Buena

Coach Steve Geremia gave court time to a lot of younger players in Santa Barbara High’s boys tennis match at Buena Tuesday, and Santa Barbara pulled off an 11-7 victory despite a Bulldog squad that Geremia called “a little tougher than I thought.”

Freshman Chris Grant went 3-0 in singles play for the Dons (6-3, 2-0 Channel League), while the seasoned doubles team of Christian Wheeler-Matt Demopoulos did the same in the windy conditions.Geremia said that he was also impressed by freshman Logan Lidell, who did a great job in going 3-0 in doubles, winning two sets with Adrian Huffard and one with Tannay Pattani.

But it wasn’t just the day’s winners that left an impression on the coach. Freshman Andy Busch went winless at 0-3, but Geremia has high hopes for Busch’s future.

“He’s showing improvement every day in the things he does. I’m very high on his prospects and potential,” he said.

Thanks also went out to co-coach Greg Tebby, whom Geremia said did most of the work on the day and deserves plenty of credit.
