Freshman catcher Jocelyn Flattery had a triple in her debut for San Marcos softball team, but the Royals gave up some key two-out rallies in Friday’s season-opening 7-5 loss at Hueneme.
“I thought we played well, but just not quite well enough to get the win,” said coach Alex Sheldon.
Pitcher Emily Mason allowed no extra-base hits and Natalie Williams made a pair of big plays at second base for the Royals, including a diving two-out web gem. Sheldon said that her defense saved four Hueneme runs from crossing the plate.
San Marcos plays at Channel Islands on Wednesday.
