Chris Pratt had 15 kills with an impressive hitting clip of .875 Wednesday as the Santa Barbara High boys volleyball team, ranked eighth in Division I, defeated No. 6 Foothill on the road 25-17, 25-19, 26-18, 25-23.
The Dons have now defeated two tough opponents (they defeated Royal in the season opener), providing some key momentum heading into this weekend’s prestigious Best of the West Tournament in San Diego. The Dons won the event last year.
“We’re shooting to win the Best of the West. That would mean a lot for this team right now,” said coach Chad Arneson.
Taylor Fauntleroy turned in another stellar performance for the Dons, pounding 20 kills with a .375 average on the left side. Setter Sam Biscaro dished out 50 assists and added five aces.
Foothill features a UCLA-bound outside hitter in Dane Worley, but Arneson said his team did a fairly good job of slowing him down. The coach also said that Tristan Cronshaw came in and did some nice serving while Alec Smyth did a solid job up front at outside hitter.
Will Boucher had eight digs, and 6-foot-7 sophomore middle Clifford Anderson was strong in the middle. Santa Barbara will play Torrey PInes to open the Best f the West as part of a tough pool which includes Harvard-Westlake and Newport Harbor.
