Gerow goes low for Dons; team finishes fourth

Santa Barbara’s Ray Gerow posted the second-lowest individual score at Robinson Ranch golf course on Friday at the Harvard-Westlake Invitational, but the Dons failed to follow his lead in a fourth place finish out of ten teams.

The Dons posted a team score of 401, 13 strokes off Westlake’s winning pace of 388. Beverly Hills was second at 391 and Great Oak in third with a 395.

Great Oaks’ Alex Forss was the medalist on the par-72 Valley Course with a one-under 71. Gerow was right behind with an even par round.

“I’m really proud of Ray,” said Santa Barbara head coach James Bedard, noting how Gerow’s hard work at all times is paying off. “It was his low score of the season on such a tough course.”

Jack Perry blew up for his highest round of the season, still only a 76. Perry’s round included an eagle on the 539-yard, par-5 fourth hole. Bedard said he used a three-wood on his second shot and stuck it within two feet of the pin before sinking the putt.

Shane Lebow carded a 75.

Santa Barbara plays again on Monday against Hart.
