Gabby Garza tossed her second shutout of the year on Friday, holding Bakersfield to four singles in SBCC’s 3-0 softball win at Pershing Park.
The Vaqueros (4-13, 2-6) scored twice in the first on a single by Erin Breck, an RBI double by Amanda Sharp and an RBI single by Bianca Alvarez. In the third, Breck walked and came around to score on a double by Alvarez.
Garza, who also had two hits, struck out four and didn’t walk a batter. The freshman from Cajon High in San Bernardino was efficient, averaging just seven pitches per inning.
The Vaqueros (4-13, 2-6) won for the third time in four games. In those three wins, they’ve outscored the opponents 26-1.
“We’re starting to settle in with the defense a little bit and our bats are definitely coming around,” said coach Paula Congleton. “We’re really pleased.
“The kids have been working hard. We had very good practices on Wednesday and Thursday. We were very focused and it definitely showed in today’s game.”
The Vaqueros will play their next six on the road, starting Tuesday at L.A. Pierce.
