The Bishop Diego offense did well on Saturday in a doubleheader at Compton Centennial, out-producing Compton 12-10 and 11-7 to help the Cardinals capture two non-league victories.
AJ Fling and Paul Gherini made the most noise for Bishop.
Fling smacked a bases-clearing triple in the first game and added a double and home run in the second and tallied eight RBIs on the day. He was also the winning pitcher in the second game after tossing five innings of three-hit ball.
Gherini helped Fling’s cause in the second game by launching two 2-run home runs.
Cardinals head coach Brian Moulton credited pitcher Ryan Landeros with “slamming the door on them” in the first game. Landeros pitched the final three innings and didn’t give up an earned run.
Four of Bishop’s seven hits in the first game were for extra bases. Fling tripled and Dez Vanderfin, Dylan Jamison and Joe Salda all doubled.
The Cardinals (2-2) next play on Wednesday at Santa Paula.
