Emily Mason showed plenty of toughness in the circle, but the San Marcos softball team committed six errors with seven hits in Wednesday’s 12-2 home loss to Santa Ynez.
Mason was hit twice by line drives in the game but kept pitching.
“Emily’s a tough kid to be able to get the ball back and keep throwing,” said coach Alex Sheldon. “The errors did us in, and the mental errors kind of took the wheels off of the wagon. The frustrating thing is that everyone on the team knows that we’re better than what we were today.”
Jocelyn Flattery had a double and Kelly McKay knocked a triple for the Royals (1-4). Another positive was that Santa Ynez was not able to strike out any Royals on the day.
