Dons use plenty of players to down feisty Royals 12-6

Santa Barbara got a lot of different players on the court Thursday against visiting San Marcos, but coach Steve Geremia said it wasn’t necessarily a cake-walk in the mighty Dons’ 12-6 win over the Royals.

“We were able to have a lot of fresh legs continually put into the match, so they had a fatigue factor. I give them a lot of credit for fighting out every single point,” he said.

Geremia said that San Marcos’ Garret Timmons’ match against Santa Barbara’s Andy Busch, which Timmons won in a tiebreaker, was a particularly impressive match. Junior Tannay Pattani had a solid day for the Dons and was able to hand top-Royal Travis Enholm a loss, and Geremia also praised Kelly Cole and Jeremy Kirchhoff.

Sophomore Cooper Matheson is back from injury and picked up a doubles win with Christian Wheeler. Geremia said that Matheson looks “about three times better” than he did last year.

He also said that there “is no better assistant coach in the country” than Greg Tebbe.

The Dons are also excited to have star player Spencer Simon back and ready to go when needed, which will probably be against Beverly Hills in a few weeks.
