Santa Barbara High dropped the first set of its boys volleyball match-up to visiting Oxnard Thursday before recovering for a 23-25, 25-14, 25-7, 25-13 win to open Channel League play.
Head coach Chad Arneson started all reserves except for setter Sam Biscaro in the frame.
“We had 16 errors in the first game, and to lose it like that was unacceptable,” he said. “I wanted to see if we could fight through it with the team we had out there.”
With the starters back in, the Dons took care of business in the next three sets to close out the match. Tyler Worley did a nice job at the service line according to Arneson, and Tristan Cronshaw stepped in at libero to tally six digs. Big middle Clifford Anderson put away six kills.
The Dons travel to play Loyola, the No. 2 team in Division I, on Saturday.
“We need to be prepared from the beginning in that match,” said Arneson.
