Dos Pueblos went down to Ventura on Thursday and ended up on the wrong end of what was an outstanding high school track meet between the Chargers and Cougars. DP’s girls team took a 75-52 loss, while the boys side came down to the final event — the high jump — with Ventura pulling it out by getting two jumpers to clear 6’2″ while Patrick Smith was the only Charger to make the height.
“Some aspects of the meet weren’t necessarily handled in an ideal way but it was once again an outstanding competition between two excellent teams,” said coach Dave Kuderka.
Erin Ristig dominated the girls 400-meter dash with a time of 59.3 seconds and also won the 200 in 25.7 seconds. Jacob Bartholomew posted a win in the boys 400, finishing in 52.1 seconds.
Isaiha Brown took the boys 100 in 10.9 seconds and 200 in 22.2 ticks, while Erin Campbell won the girls 800 in 2:21.6.
Steven Scarvelis won the 300 hurdles for DP and Sergey Sushchikh took the 3200 by a half-second, clocking in at 9:55.3. Sam Wopat took the girls long and triple jumps while twin-sister Carly won the discus.
Smith won the long and triple jump on the boys side.
