Dos Pueblos’ boys volleyball team was solid in its home-opener, coming out on top in a 5-set match against visiting Buchanan 25-19, 25-16, 22-25, 22-25, 15-12 Friday at Sovine Gym. The Bears also lost to San Marcos in five sets on Thursday.
“I was pretty happy it didn’t go just three games because it’s nice to see how the guys react when they have some pressure on them,” said DP assistant coach Chris Jones. “I think they’ll remember that they won this one and be able to use that in the future.”
Cody Zoesch and Jordon Dyer led the Chargers attack while Brian Schoenberger put away 10 kills and six key blocks. Will McCracken dished out 25 assists with seven kills and two aces, while fellow-setter Tim Baxter provided the team with a big emotional boost.
Jones described a big play for DP in which Baxter got way up to set a pass that was tight on the net. Zoesch, who stands at 6-foot-8, went into the stratosphere and bombed it down for the kill.
“When that happens, it’s unstoppable,” said Jones.
The coach also said that Dillan Bennett played an exceptionally stable and consistent all-around match.
