Head coach Donn Roberts was a winner in his debut with the Dos Pueblos softball team on Saturday at the Susan Manlet Tournament in Simi Valley, leading the Chargers to a 4-2 win over Burroughs before dropping a 9-0 decision to Royal.
In the victory over Burroughs, Shelli Siebert and Andria Castagnola combined to strike out seven batters while only surrendering 3 hits in the contest.
At the plate, Jessica Carbone wiped out a 2-0 Burroughs lead with an two-run single before Marisa Radeke knocked a 2-rbi double in the fourth inning to give the Chargers all the cushion they needed.
“It was very cool to start off with a win,” shared Roberts.
Roberts singled out the defensive play of Amber Altavilla, who made dazzling plays at both shortstop and in right field.
The tournament concludes next weekend but Dos Pueblos has games against Bishop Diego and Cabrillo scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday. The Cabrillo game will be the Chargers’ home opener.
