Chargers edge Pirates on windy day

The Dos Pueblos and Santa Ynez boys golf teams may have been playing each other, but they were both battling the wind.

The Chargers came out on top at Glen Annie, scoring a 404-410 defeat of the Pirates.

Freshman Carson Curtis actually improved on his score from the day before and carded a 76, one stroke behind medalist Johnny Henno of Santa Ynez.

DP’s Lane Fuller scored a 78 while Alex Kim and Sean Dishman had 83s.

Chargers head coach Rob Schiff said the scores were good considering that players were taking shots they weren’t used to given the wind, like pulling their three-woods for the 180-yard par-3 17th hole.

“Even the putts were affected (by the wind),” he said.

Dos Pueblos hosts Rio Mesa at Glen Annie on Thursday in its next match.
