Tori Thompson secured the Rose Bowl Tournament title for the Cate girls lacrosse team on Saturday, scoring 11 seconds into sudden-death overtime to give the Rams a 9-8 victory over Foothill.
Thompson recorded 10 goals in three Cate wins. The Rams defeated Peninsula 12-2 and Tesoro 12-9 on their way to the title game. Cascade Zak was Cate’s high scorer on the day, tallying 14 goals, including five in the championship game.
Thompson and Zak, both seniors, accounted for 24 of the Rams’ 33 goals scored on the day.
Sophomore Alexx Temena debuted in goal for Cate and recorded half of her day’s save total (18) in the title game (9).
Shelby DeGroot added four goals and an assist. Maddie Firestone scored three times.
